suitep: Phil Harris, the Deadliest Catch guy just died. This kind of hit me hard, mainly because I recognized old friends in him. He was a perfect example of the harshness of commercial fishing. It takes its toll. My ex-husband was a commercial fisherman. We lived that life when we were kids. I was dragged along unwillingly, but you stick with your man, you know? He sat out a trip when his boat, the Mary Lou, went up to fish the Bering Sea. The boat went down, and all of our friends were lost. That George Clooney movie could’ve been written about our life when we were kids. I was so excited to hear he was doing better days ago too. My dad narrowly pulled out of the same situation (such as it is) and it’s such a miserable experience. Definitely sending all my good thoughts to his sons.
