Robert 'Dogfish' Rudine's art has become a country called Tui Tui
“Rudine didn’t plan to become head of a country when he started to make stamps in the 1980s. First he was a mail artist. Envelopes and postcards were his instruments. Then he began to design the stamps to go with them. After that, it was (in his mind) a short step to creating a country to give his one-man postal system an authoritative ring.”
My mom was in town this past weekend and part of our tourist extravaganza was a houseboat and rich house tour along the Seattle lakes, one of the houseboats being Robert Rudine’s New Zealand recognized sovereign nation. Neat stories abound in the floating homes community. It’s an old article, but an interesting read.
