Weblogs rack up a decade of posts
“Official numbers are hard to find but some estimate that the size of the blogosphere in late 1998 encompassed only 23 sites.”
I recently went on a search for my original site when I realized next year will be 10 years of me putting fumbling details of my boring life online. Back then it was a Tripod page where I hand edited the main page html to update with the newest occurings of my high school life.
The Tripod site is not archived, and the first and only link I can find confirming it did exist is through a link to the member pages from my old isp. It shows I existed definitely on December 13, 1998, and was added after a July 1998 archive, very much coinciding with when I started my Freshman year of high school.
It’s good to know I’ve been trivializing the medium with a small vocabulary, boring lunch menus and lots of vulgarity since the beginning.
Here’s to 10 years gone.
